Carbon-fiber tungsten dart shafts are generally light-weight and very durable, while being slightly more expensive than plastic or nylon shafts. High-quality carbon dart shafts, such as L-style carbon tungsten dart shafts have the durability of an aluminum shaft without the potential for loosening in the barrel or bending, maintaining the accuracy of your darts over time.

Solid Aluminum Tungsten Dart Shafts
Solid aluminum tungsten dart shafts are more
rigid and durable than plastic or composite shafts, aluminum shafts are also available
in many color and styles, some solid aluminum tungsten dart shafts are with
decorative engraved stripes, flutes, or spirals, they may tend to vibrate
loose, especially on heavy darts, but this can be counter-acted by putting rubber
o-rings between the shafts and barrels of your darts.
Plastic or Nylon Tungsten Dart Shafts
Plastic or nylon tungsten dart shafts are
not expensive, and they are available in many colors, but many break fairly
easily. Plastic or nylon tungsten dart shafts will work well for most players
until you start consistently throwing tight groups and breaking lots of shafts.
Tungsten Dart Flight Types
There are many
different styles and sizes of tungsten dart flights, includes smooth and
dimpled surfaces. The size and style of your flights can impact your game.
Dimpled surfaces, for example, will help slow down and stabilize your darts.
Try out all dart flight sizes and styles until you feel comfortable with your
final configuration.
Spinning Dart Throw
Spinning means that dart
rotates when throw it, some players have noticed this spin are concerned
whether this is okay or a bad thing. Actually, it is not a bad thing, it is an
additional movement, but on the other hand spin also adds stability.

Tungsten Darts Weights Recommendation
How to choose tungsten dart weight? If
you're throwing soft-tip tungsten darts, go to the
14-16 gram varieties to play it safe. If you're just starting in steel-tip tungsten
darts and do not have the ability to try out different weights to see what you
like, we suggest you can start off with a 21-22 gram tungsten dart.
Soft-tip Tungsten Darts Weights
Soft-tip tungsten darts are darts with soft
tips. Soft-tip tungsten darts are a different story compared with steel-tip tungsten
dart, you will need to check with your local leagues for the weight
requirements. At the time of this posting, 16 grams darts seem to be a safe bet
no matter where you are throwing. You can get a heavier soft-tip dart, but some
leagues and tournaments may ban them due to the construction or restraints of
the machines that are being used. An opponent can challenge the weight of your
dart if they feel it is too heavy.
Steel-tip Tungsten Darts Weights
Steel-tip tungsten darts are darts with
steel tips. Steel-tip tungsten darts can weigh up to 50 grams, though you will
have a very difficult time locating very many varieties above 30 grams. Most
people throw darts that weigh between 20-25 grams.
Why are Tungsten darts superior?
Why tungsten darts is superior to brass dart, nickel dart? This is due to the
tungsten being a denser material and therefore heavier which allows a dart to
be machined in a smaller diameter which means you can pack more darts into a
small space like the bulls eye.
What Weight of Tungsten Dart Should I Buy?
We cannot answer this as a tungsten dart is an individuals style - however in short the
best thing to do is try out a few darts whether it be friends or at a club -
generally beginners start off with 22gm or 24gm weight for steel tip and 18gm
for soft tip. If you throw with quite an arc you are often best with a lighter
dart and if throw reasonably straight then you are more suited to a heavier
dart.

When and how did darts begin?
It is
believed that darts as a sport evolved from many forms whether it be martial
arts, archery etc, the first dartboard was probably a tree!!! It was played in
the 1800s and it was around the 1900's that rules for darts began to settle and
layout of boards etc were standardised.
Today's
darts is played around the world and is a great game to enjoy by all. It is fun
but also assists with mental agility, hand eye coordination and arithmetic . It
is relatively low cost to set up and does not require a huge fields so is
attractive to many.
Dart weight
Choosing which weight of dart to use can be
tricky and is again trial and error. Basically a heavier dart will suit a more
relaxed throw, while a lighter dart would suit some one who wants to put more
effort in. Often ladies will choose a heavier dart to get more power but this
is not always the case.
Steel tip darts,
range from 18gm to 32gm. Most common weights are 23gm steel
tip and the 24gm steel tip, these are a recommended starting weight for
beginners.
Soft or steel tip?
What are the differences between soft and
steel tip?
Soft tip darts have flexible plastic tips
(soft tips) and are thrown at a plastic board with molded holes in it, which
accept and hold the point of the dart. These darts are most commonly used on electronic machines, which score automatically.
Steel tip darts are traditional darts with
metal points most commonly thrown at a bristle dartboard.
Which darts are the best to buy?
Choosing the right darts for you can take a bit of trial and error. The best dart for you may also
change over time as your improve. Here are some tips for choosing the right
dart for you.
As a general rule of thumb is if you have long fingers you would probably favour a long dart, small fingers a smaller dart.
Replacement Points
Replacement points are available from us in
black or silver. These are available in various lengths and we can change your
existing points while you wait if required. More time may be required if your
points have never been changed before.
2013年10月27日星期日
Long or Short Shafts?
Using different length shafts and dart fights will change the way the dart
fly’s. There isn't a best shaft or flight to use as this is personal
preference. If you are a watcher of darts and new to the game you
will notice all darters will have their own preference in shaft length and
type, plastic, metal, aluminium and nylon.
As a guide short shafts tend to move the center of gravity of the dart towards the front end of the barrel. For good throwing most dart throwers hold their darts at this point so if you hold your darts at the front end of the barrel the short shafts might be best suited to your throw. Long shaft will effectively move the center of gravity of the dart towards the back, so if you throw your darts holding them at the back of the dart a long shaft my suit you better than short shafts.
Steel tip vs Soft tip Darts?
The two most popular versions of darts are:
Steel tip darts- traditional darts with
metal points most commonly thrown at a bristle dartboard.
Soft tip darts- the most recent arrival on
the dart scene. These darts have flexible plastic tips (hence soft tips) and
are thrown at a plastic board with molded holes in it, which accept and hold
the point of the dart. These darts are most commonly used on electronic
machines, which score automatically.
How to hold a Dart?
Beginners often ask, "What's the right way to hold a dart?" There is
no 'right' way. This is a very personal thing, which cannot be dictated by
someone else. You can hold a dart like a pen, with the first finger over the
barrel and second finger under the barrel. You can hold it with the first two
fingers over the barrel and the third finger steadying the point, or you can
hold it with all four fingers on the dart. One thing is certain: it's the
leverage of the thumb that transmits the throwing force to the dart. That force
is accentuated by the rotation of your forearm swing of your hand over the
wrist joint. Your fingers serve to hold the dart to the power source (your
thumb) and coordinate the release. Your fingers do not provide the power but
are responsible for the smooth launch of the dart. Remember, your thumb
contributes the power; your fingers promote accuracy.
Slim Tungsten Darts
Tungsten darts come in a huge variety to
suit the home player through to the club champion.
These darts are not pure tungsten but
rather tungsten / nickel alloy and will range in percentage of tungsten
anywhere from 70% to 97%.
As tungsten is a heavier metal than brass,
this allows a slimmer barrel to be constructed, which can be up to half the
size of brass, to optimize the highest scoring potential. Therefore the higher
the percentage of tungsten the slimmer the dart will be.
Brass Darts
Brass is a soft material which makes it
easy to manufacture to shape and work with.
Brass darts are ideal for home or novice
player as the initial cost is low and the thick barrels are suited to practice
basic throwing techniques.

501 and 301
Most professional matches are "501 up". This is the simplest of dart games. Each player starts with a score of 501 and takes turns to throw 3 darts. The score for each turn is calculated and deducted from the players total. Bullseye scores 50, the outer ring scores 25 and a dart in the double or treble ring counts double or treble the segment score. The objective is to be the first player to reduce the score to exactly zero, the only caveat being that the last dart thrown must land in a double or the bullseye.
If a player reduces the score to 1 or goes below zero, the score is bust, that turn ends immediately and the score is returned to what it was at the start of that turn. e.g. if a player has 32 to go out and the first dart is a 16, the second is a 15, the player is bust and the score is returned to 32. So on the last turn, it is not necessary to throw all 3 darts - a player can win with the first or second dart of the turn.
Because a player who misses a targeted double is likely to score the single of that segment, good players attempt to leave themselves with a repeatably bisectable number such as 24 or most ideally 32 - double 16. So for instance, if a player has double 16 left, and hits a 16, he has double 8 left and if he then hits an 8 he has double 4 left and so on - this is advantageous because no extra darts need to be thrown in order to reduce the score to an even number... It so often happens that people reduce their score to 1 (typically while aiming for double 1), some people play a very unofficial rule called "splitting the 11". This rule says that when the score is reduced to 1, instead of going bust, the player must "split the 11" by throwing a dart between the two numbers forming the number 11 on the edge of the board. This is tricky.
301 is played in exactly the same way but players start the game with 301. Some games require a double to start scoring as well as to finish the game.
When the score goes below 171, professional players know the numbers to aim at order to check out in a single turn with 3 darts. Here is a table of such combinations. Some scores have multiple check out options but in most cases, we only show the best one:
170
t20, t20, bull. (Highest checkout possible.)
167
t20, t19, bull.
164
t20, t18, bull.
(preferable to t19, t19, bull because it doesn't require two darts in one bed and a miss keeps the number even.)
161
t20. t17, bull.

152
t20, t20, d16
151
t20, t17, d20
150
t20, t18, d18
(preferable to bull, bull, bull unless you are in the mood for intimidating your opponent!)
149
t20, t19, d16
148
t20, t16, d20
( followed by t18, t18, d20)
147
t20, t17, d18 or
t19, t18, d18
146
t20, t18, d16
(followed by t19, t19, d16).
For all numbers lower than 146, there are at least 3 check-out combinations.
Darts: Basic Rules
Basically, dart games are played between two players or two teams. The teams can be made up of two or more people each. Variations that allow for more than two sides have been devised, but these have not achieved any popularity.
Nine throws are generally allowed for each person as a warm-up before a game begins. Then, to determine which team or person is to take his turn first one dart is thrown by a person from each team. The team with the dart closest to the bull's eye takes the first turn.
Each player throws three darts in his turn. Then the darts are retrieved. If a foot crosses over the line or a person happens to trip over the oche and releases his dart, the throw counts for no points and may not be re-thrown.
Darts must stay on the board for at least five seconds after a player's final throw to count. A throw does not score if it sticks into another dart or if it falls off the board.
Darts making it on the board score in the following manner:
In the wedge: the amount posted on the outer ring.
The double ring (the outer, narrow ring): twice the number hit.
The triple ring (the inner, narrow ring): three times the number hit.
Bulls eye (outer bull): twenty-five points.
Double bulls eye (inner bull): fifty points.
This is the basic method for play and scoring. A wide variety of games and variations are based upon it and will be discussed in the next section.

How to Recording Darts Scores
Recording scores is easy but does require the ability to multiply, add and subtract. When the player has thrown their three darts, the score is added up. The total is then subtracted from the team total to produce a current score.
Example:
A player scores D5 (double 5), 20 and 1. The total is 10+20+1=31.
501 = starting score
31 = minus 3 dart score for player
480 = running total
This method of scoring continues uall the way to the end of the match. However, once your score falls to 170 or below it may be possible to finish the game with 3 darts. This is when you should consult the Three Dart Finishing Guide to find a way to finish the game as quickly as possible.
To finish the leg you need to finish on a double. If you score more than, or 1 less than, the required total with three darts, your score will not be counted and the previous score will stand.

Basic Rules of Dart
As follow is the basic rule of dart:
In a game of 501 the object is for one player or a team to be the first to reach zero from starting total of 501.
In simple terms, after three darts are thrown, the throwing player subtracts the total scored from his current total until he reaches zero.
In order to reach zero each player must finish by throwing a double i.e. if player one has 36 remaining he must hit double 18 to win, while if player two has 45 remaining he must hit single 5, double 20 to win - or a another combination of scores provided the final dart scores on a double.
Some versions of the game require a 'double start' whereby players must begin the game with a double as well as 'checking out' on a double. The World Grand Prix uses the 'double in, double out' rule.
Games can be played to a 'Best of' format whereby a player or team winning three legs in a 'Best of Five Leg' competition wins the match.
The World Matchplay and UK Open events are examples of tournament played on a 'Best of' format with legs as the scoring format. Games on the PDC ProTour are held over the Best of 11 Legs.
Other tournaments will be played in 'Set' format, whereby players must win a set by winning the Best of Five legs, before claiming the match in the Best of Five Sets.
The PDC World Championship and World Grand Prix are played using the Set format, with differing lengths of games at each tournament.

Shaft-Snap Rings and Shaft Crowns
Shaft-snap rings and shaft crowns are used with nylon shafts, and keep the flights tightened to
the shaft.
Often when you started to get the grouping right and the 180's is all up in there, the flights bounces of the shaft. With snap rings /crowns the flight will stay mounted on the shaft.
Some players use glue on the flights when they mount it to the nylon shafts, this is a good solution to keep the flights on the shafts, but it can be a bit expensive because you have to replace the shaft and the flights if any part gets broken.
Shaft-O-rings
O-rings are great for attaching aluminum,
titanium, magnesium and steel shafts to the darts. Without O-rings you need to
tight the shafts to the darts all the time. It's also easy to mount with help
of a tool called shaft lock system. When you use nylon shafts o-rings are not
necessary.
Heavy Metal Shaft
Heavy metal shaft has a weight of total 4
grams, much more than normal shafts have. If you like to experience with
different shafts try this model.
Carbon Plus
Graphite has a higher strength than steel.
When combined with a low weight to volume ratio, this makes an ideal
combination of lightness and strength. As a result of this graphite has been
used in many sporting applications including: golf clubs, fishing rods, tennis
rackets and snooker cues.
The carbon plus shaft, which features a
super light graphite rod, weights in at a mere 1.0 grams.
This type of shafts
has some higher price range. Steel Shafts
Steel shafts have a slim design, and most
of them with opportunity to replace the top of the shaft holding the flights.
Steel shafts are not that expensive, the price range is more or less the same as aluminium shafts.
2013年8月26日星期一
Sigma Pro Shafts
Sigma pro shafts come in many different
designs. They have a unique technology and it's also built in flights
protectors. These types of shafts don’t break that easily and come with
replaceable flights holders in nylon. Sigma pro shafts are made in titanium
based material, nylon, magnesium and aluminum so you have a wide range to
choose from. The main advantage with this type of shafts is that it extends the
grip to base of your darts. Or you can say that it extending your darts.
Titanium Shafts
Titanium shaft is the strongest
shafts on the market today, and also the most expensive ones. They have all the
advantage like the aluminium shafts, but they cost a bit more. The advantage
with the Titanium shaft is that they not bend that easily and are almost
indestructible.
Magnesium Shafts
Magnesium shaft is type of shaft is new in darts technology. Magnesium shafts
are ultra light shafts. They are a little bit more expensive than aluminum
shafts.
Aluminum Shafts
Aluminum shafts are a little bit more expensive then
the nylon shaft. However this type of shafts doesn’t break, but they can easily
get bended, a drop from the dartboard to the floor can be enough. It’s very
difficult to bend them back to it’s original state when they first get bend,
witch can again lead to problems later when you throwing the darts.
2013年8月12日星期一
Nylon Shafts
Nylon shafts are the
cheapest shafts on the market today. These flights are in small, medium, large
and extra large size. Nylon shaft can easily brake, and when these shafts break
it can be a little bit tricky to get the last peace out of the barrel, but
there is a tool for that so you can easily screw out the reaming part. The
nylon shaft is often sold in big packs with 15 or more sets. The price will
very from vendor to vendor. But if you use this kind of shaft make sure you
have some with you at all time and it’s not so expensive.
Why do shaft come in different lengths?
Shafts are made of various different
materials such as graphite, aluminium and polycarbonate. The weight and length
of the shaft will dictate how the dart performs in flight. If you are new to
the game a good idea is to try different lengths of shafts and find one
standard that fits your style.

Spear points
If you have a set of soft darts that you really like, and going over to play
steel darts you can use spear points.
Simply convert your soft darts over to
steel tip darts in seconds.
2013年8月4日星期日
Soft tips for soft darts
Soft tips come in many different designs,
quality and colors. There is a lot to choose from on today’s market. Soft tips
does not last that long and a good rule is to replace them when they start to
bend. I have tried several different types of soft sips and my advice is that
you try the same. It all depends on witch electronic board you are throwing on,
how hard you throw and so on. It’s not a good idea to use to much muscle when throwing
soft dart, the electronic dartboards are not like bristle dartboards.
Steel Tips for Darts
When you throw your darts it can take some
damage bouncing on the floor, hitting the wall and so on. If the steel tip on
your darts gets worn out you have the opportunity to replace the steel tip on
your darts.
There are many different designs to choose
from, and with the right tool it's pretty easy to change your steel tips on
your darts. It does only take about 1 minute to change the tips with Chinatungsten’s
tool. Chinatungsten’s tool is the best replacing tool I have ever tried, and
the price is pretty low.
You can choose from many different designs.
And most dart producers have a small / large range of different steel tips.
Steel dart tip
Steel dart tips are made with one steel bar
at lever 34 Smithing, granting 37.5 Smithing
experience and yielding 10 dart
tips.
2013年7月31日星期三
Legal Weights for Darts
Steel-tip darts can weigh up to 50 grams,
though you will have a very difficult time locating very many varieties above
30 grams. Most people throw darts that weigh between 20-25 grams.
Soft-tip darts are a different story, you
will need to check with your local leagues for the weight requirements. At the
time of this posting, 16 grams darts seem to be a safe bet no matter where you
are throwing. You can get a heavier soft-tip dart, but some leagues and
tournaments may ban them due to the construction or restraints of the machines
that are being used. An opponent can challenge the weight of your dart if they
feel it is too heavy.
If you're throwing soft-tip darts, go to
the 14-16 gram varieties to play it safe. If you're just starting in steel-tip
darts and do not have the ability to try out different weights to see what you
like, I would start off with a 21-22 gram dart.
Different Styles of Dart Barrels
Below are some pictures of different dart
barrels. These are only a few of the thousands of different styles you can find
out here.
2013年7月8日星期一
The Mechanics of Throwing
The second thing you need to be aware of is
something that everyone has overlooked, and that is "pivot ability".
Hold a dart in your hand, sideways, pointing
it to your left, if you're a "righty" and to your right, if you're a
"lefty." Slowly, and repeatedly, make the arm motion as if you are
going to throw the dart. Watch your thumb nail! As your hand comes forward,
notice that the thumb is pivoting on the barrel's surface as the dart barrel is
staying relatively horizontal.

Brass Darts
Brass is a soft alloy (copper & zinc) which makes it easy to for manufacturers to shape and work with, so brass darts are in various shapes and types.
How to test darts forward grip
Take the dart that you want to test and put
in your throwing hand. It doesn't need to have a flight on it. Just to simulate
the situation of when you throw a dart, hold it as if you were actually going
to throw it, and grip it in the exact same manner and with the same finger
pressure you would if you again, were going to throw it. Next, take the dart in
that frozen position in you hand, and hold the point down against a flat
surface, like a table or even a wall. Now, with the same effort that you would
use when you would throw a dart, and then attempt to penetrate the dart into
that flat surface, much the same way you would press a thumbtack.
You need to pay attention to the feel of
what happens to your fingers. One of two things is going to happen. The worse
thing is that your fingers are going to slip and move towards the front of your
dart. If this happens, this is bad. If the dart slips here, then it is not
going to give you the control you need when you are projecting it at your
target! Conversely, if your fingers don't slip, then the barrel has passed the
test.
Darts Grip
The most
important feature of a dart that determines quality and worth is the barrel's grip, a close second, is the
flight. The most
important feature of a dart that determines quality and worth is the barrel's
grip, a close second, is the flight. If you have the best grip, you are going to get three things:
control, consistency and accuracy. If you don't have the proper grip, then
those three items go right out the window no matter how much knowledge you have
and practice you perform.

How to Choose Tungsten Darts
There are absolutely thousands of different tungsten darts out on the
market. They're all extremely efficient and there's bound to be a set out there
that suits you. Be it a little dumpy dart, a dum dum, or a long slender dart
like this fellow, anything in between, all made of tungsten are extremely good
value for money.
Now, there are no rules to say what sort of dart, what style of dart, what weight of dart, is the best for you. That, you must find out for yourself by picking up a set of darts and trying them and suddenly finding the one that really works for you. And that's a simple matter of trial and error.

Darts Rules-Rules for Sudden Death
Sudden Death is a very fast moving game for a large number
of players. Playing with less than six players’ means the game will be over in
two or three minutes.
Object
To be the last person not eliminated.
Scoring
No scoring is needed, all you have to do is remember
playing order and what the LOWEST score thrown in each round is.
Play
Each player (there are no teams in this game) throws one
dart at bullseye, closest to the bullseye goes first.
Each player takes a turn trying to throw the highest
possible score with three darts. Each dart scores the number where it landed
with the thin outer "doubles" ring counting as two times the number
hit and the thin inner "triples" ring counting as three times. The
outer bullseye counts as 25 and the inner as 50 points.
After each player has thrown, whoever threw the lowest
score that round is eliminated from the game and the next round is thrown with
the remaining players. Whoever is left in the game at the end wins.
One fun variation on this game that I like is to score it
like the Low version of High/Low and eliminate whoever threw the HIGHEST score.
It's a lot of fun this way.
Strategy
Play your strongest numbers! A triple 16 (if that's your
number) is a lot better score that floundering around the 20 and hitting 5's
and 1's.
Rules for Soccer
Soccer is a game for two players or teams only. It is a
very difficult game but is great practice because only bullseyes and doubles
count.
The Object
To be the first player to score ten goals.
The Scoring
No scoring is needed if you can simply remember each
players points from one to ten.
The Play
One player from each team throws one dart at bullseye,
closest to the bullseye goes first.
In order to score a "goal", the players first
must "take possession of the ball". To take possession, you must hit
a bullseye (either a single or a double, it does not matter). Once you have
possession, you keep the ball until the other player/team takes possession by
hitting a bullseye.
Only the player/team that has possession of the ball may
score goals. To score a goal you must hit any double on the board. The doubles
are the thin outer ring and the inner-bullseye. Any double you hit anywhere on
the board counts as one goal and scores one point for you or your team.
Strategy: There isn't any.

Rules for Slider
Slider is a very easy dart game, but good practice because it
uses the whole board. It is also a very fast moving game and can usually be
finished in less than 10 minutes. Any number of players can play. Handicapping
can be done by limiting the target area of stronger players.
The Object
To hit every number on the board IN ORDER from 10 through
20 with one dart and finish before the other players.
The Scoring
Scoring is not needed in this game as long as everyone can
remember what number they are up to and what order they shoot.
The Play
The first player tries to shoot first at 10, when a 10 is
hit, play moves on to 11 and so on until all three darts are thrown. The next
player then does the same thing, and so on. Remember only the number that the
player is shooting for counts and all the numbers must be shot in order.
If the player misses the target number with all three
darts, the player "slides" back a number for the next turn. For
example, if the player is throwing at 15 and misses with all three darts, the
next time that player throws, the target number will be 14.
The first player to hit the 20 wins.
Strategy: There isn't any.
Dart Rules-Rules for 6-14
6-14 dart rule is an fun game to play and great practice
for x01. It has a fixed number of rounds and moves very quickly. It may be
played by any number of players or teams.
Object
The object of the game is to score the most points in a
fixed number of rounds.
Scoring
The numbers 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 are written
down the center of the score board with the players names written in order
across the top. Playing order is determined by a throw at bullseye, closest
dart plays first.
Play
Players take turns aiming at the thin outer
"doubles" ring of the number of the round they
are in. In the first
round, play is for the double-6, in the second round play is for the double-7,
etc. Only the double of the current number counts for any score.
Each dart that lands in the proper double scores that
player 50 points. For example, in the first round a player shoots a single-5,
double-6 and double-6, the players score would be 100 points.
If a player shoots at least one dart into the double of
the target number, that player gets an additional throw of three darts at the
20. The total of the 20's is added up in the usual way, the thin outer
"doubles" ring counting as two 20's (40 points). The thin inner "triples"
ring counting as three 20's (60 points). The rest of the 20 counts as one 20
(20 points). If none of the target doubles are hit, the player is not allowed a
throw at the 20's.
The sum of 50 points for each of the target number double
is added to the sum of the 20's and the score is written in the player's column
next to the target number.
Play continues alternating players/teams until the
"14" round is complete. The scores are totaled and the higher scoring
player/team wins.
Strategy
Try to score a lot of points.

Rules For Shove Ha'Penny
Shove Ha'Penny is a very simple game that may be played
with any number of players.
Games go very quickly and may be finished in as little as
nine darts.
The Object
The object of the game is to be the first to close all the
numbers 1 through 9.
The Scoring
Each player throws one dart at bullseye, closest to the
bullseye goes first.
Players’ names are written in throwing order across the
top of the scoreboard. The numbers 1 through 9 are written vertically down the
board. Vertical lines may be drawn to divide the board into columns for each
player.
The Play
Players try to "close" each number from 1
through 9. To close a number you must hit 3 of each number in any combination.
The thin outer ring counts as two and is called a double. The thin inner ring
counts as three and is called a triple.
Scoring is represented in the following manner: a score of
one is shown with a slash ("/"), a score of two is shown with an X and
a score of three is shown with a circle ("O") to represent the number
as closed.
Numbers may be closed in any order and any of the target
numbers may be scored at any time. For example a player may choose to throw one
dart at 1, one dart at 2 and one dart at 7 instead of trying for three at one
number.
The one unique catch to this game is that if you throw
more that three of a number, any extra darts that you throw must be given to
your opponent. For example, with your first dart you hit a single 1, your
second dart is a single 1 and your third dart is a triple 1. You have now
scored a total of five 1's. You take three of them to close but the other two
must be given to your opponent.
In a multi-player game (more than two) there are three
variations on who to give the points to. The first is to give the points to the
next player in throwing order. The second is to give the points to whichever
player needs those particular points the most. The third is to allow the
shooter of the extra points to choose which player will receive them. The
method of distributing the extra points should be agreed upon at the beginning
of the game and will be the method used throughout the entire game.
The only time extra points do not go to another player is
when the extra points mean the player will win the game by getting those
points. The winner of the game must throw the winning dart him/herself. A game
could be won by having all the points but one given to a player and that player
just hitting the one point to win the game.
Strategy
If you have a choice who to give the points to, be very
careful who you choose to give the points to. If someone is really having
trouble with a number, it might be better to give the points to someone else
and let the player having trouble continue to have trouble.
Rules for Shanghai
Dart rules Shanghai
is a fun and easy game to learn and is good practice because it covers the
whole board. It may be played by any number of people or teams.
The Object
Try to score as many points as possible in 20 innings or
"Shanghai" your opponent.
The Scoring
Each player throws one dart at bullseye, closest to the
bullseye goes first. The names of the players are written in order across the
top of the scoreboard and the numbers 1 through 20 are written down the left
side of the board. Vertical lines are drawn to divide the scoreboard into
columns, one for each player.
The Play
Each player takes a turn throwing three darts to score the
highest score possible in that round. Only the wedge that is the same number as
the round counts towards the score. For example, only 1's count in the first
round, 2's in the second, etc. The thin outer "doubles" ring counts
as twice the number scored and the thin inner "triples" ring counts
as three times. After all twenty rounds have been completed whoever has the
highest score wins.
The second way to win is to "Shanghai" your
opponent. To Shanghai, you must hit one dart in the single, one in the triple
and one in the double of the target number in any order. If you succeed in
hitting a Shanghai ,
the game is over and you win regardless of the other player's score.
Strategy
If you hit a double or a triple with the first dart,
always try for the Shanghai .
If you miss it, you will still have a decent score and if you do get it, you
win.
